French onion soup, steak and frites with salad and pepper sauce, and a divine chocolate self-saucing pudding with toasted almonds and strawberries. A friend and I used to share this meal on a regular basis when we were poor university students and it’s still a favourite.
Do you have any special requests for your stay at our hotel?
A hot spa.
What is your worst habit when writing?
Glancing at my TBR pile and thinking I have time for just one chapter.
Do you have a writing routine? If so, could you share a bit about it with us?
I sit down to write from when the kids are at school to when I pick them up. Often I’ll sit down again at night, after they’ve gone to bed—particularly if I’m on a deadline.
We’re always looking to expand the Chatsfield Library and welcome recommendations. What are the last two books you read and why?
A Lot Like Love by Julie James and Rival’s Challenge by Abby Green. Both for pleasure!
If you could write anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Paris, probably followed by somewhere on the Med.
We can tell from your recent published book that you have a vested interest in our very own hotels! So (curious minds want to know!) are you team Chatsfield or Team Harrington?!
Oh, definitely Team Harrington.
What did you most love about writing this story?
The unfolding of Lukas and Eleanore’s relationship, and particularly the moment Lukas bet Eleanor that she would be the one to kiss him first!
What has been your best hotel experience and what made it memorable?
Staying at Crown Casino on my wedding night. Corner room, spa bath, husband...
What has been your most unusual hotel experience and why?
We were recently in New Zealand at a ski lodge and my son wanted to experiment with the fire alarm. He emptied the building of three hundred people early in the morning...that was unusually embarrassing!
If you could have given your hero or heroine a piece of advice before they started on their journey in your story, what would it have been?
To believe that they were both wonderful people who deserved each other.
Thank you for answering our questions. We very much hope you enjoy your stay!
WELCOME TO
Dear Lukas,
To ensure that your stay at the Chatsfield is as exclusive and private as possible, we will need to ask you a few questions of perhaps a delicate nature, to ensure that our private security team will be best placed to support you.
If you had to pick your most public scandalous moment, what would it be?
Sorry. I’m not the scandalous type.
Was there an even more scandalous event that didn’t make it into the press?
I’ve knocked a few guys out in my younger days. Does that count?
What is your biggest secret?
Well, it’s not a secret any more, but I grew up on the less salubrious streets of Moscow and St Petersburg from the age of five.
What do you love most about Eleanore?
She’s sassy and beautiful and always puts others’ needs ahead of her own. Well, with everyone but me, that is...
What were your first thoughts when you saw Eleanore?
I saw a PR photo of her and thought she looked like the kind of woman who would be better suited hosting a man’s dinner party than designing his house. She’s not going to see this, is she?
If your house was on fire and you could only save one thing, what would it be?
Eleanore.
What is the naughtiest thing you did at school?
I didn’t go to school. But I did once throw petrol on a bin fire at an orphanage.
What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Eleanore.
What is your worst habit?
I don’t think I have one, but Eleanore might say my controlling nature.
What is your favourite film?
It’s a Wonderful Life.
What present would you put beneath the Christmas tree for Eleanore?
A friend for Lucky.
How will you spend your first anniversary as a couple?
In the Sheikh’s Room at the Krystal Palace. Or maybe the Pirate Room again. I still have to tie her to the bedposts. Maybe you should let Eleanore read this...
Thank you for your candour. We will endeavour to ensure a scandal free time during your stay with us!
Whether you’re in America, Australia, Europe or Dubai our doors will always be open…
